How to Host a Party and not spend a lot of $$$$$

By Michael J. Nazarovech

Introduction:

Having a party can be fun and entertaining. If you have not hosted a party before, you are really missing out on some great entertainment. It is not that complicated, all you need is a little money and organization. The great part of hosting the event is that you can delegate different responsibilities and make it a fun event and not a painstaking complicated project.

The amazing thing is that you can pick some appetizers, main entrees and deserts and use them over and over again for many different events like:

Sport events, baseball Games, football games, basketball games and concerts, my favorite is Jimmy Buffet Concerts.

In fact I do not know of an event that if planned correctly with selected appetizers and main entries could be accomplished, without spending a lot of money. This includes tailgating and of course includes the normal festive holiday gatherings with family and friends. Birthdays and anniversaries are important. Like any event someone needs to take charge and sort of develop a plan. Where, when and what is needed and who is responsible for different jobs.

Things that need to be decided in advance - are you stove top cooking? Oven cooking? or grilling or just making sandwiches and finger foods, or a combination of these cooking methods. How are you going to keep the food safe to eat? (Heating and cooling foods is important). Where is a good location?  At home or larger facility of course if it is free. Check out condo club houses as an example. After deciding where? And when? now comes the planning. One idea to keep in mind is to do as many things including cooking days in advance so the event does not get to hard for you.
Date and time. A theme for type of food – Cajun, Barbecue, Picnic Food, etc., Or Just “Pot Luck” especially if you are going to have people brings items. Sending invitations is classy and with computers you can now make your own.
People are very ingenious about recipes and what entertainment they will have before and during the major events. So let your imagination take over when it comes to coming up with a theme.
Personally I don’t like too many games and like Frisbees, touch-football, horseshoes, and most recently the “Corn Hole” tossing which have become very popular in Cincinnati. Usually, games are to distracting because they take away from mingling and talking which I find most stimulating. Music is always a great to include; songs and music can be played to fit the occasssion.
